Svalbard, 01-04-1998, (validation ASI-v3.2)

Ice concentrations derived from satellite and aircraft mesasurements.
Microwave radiometers (19.35 GHz and 37 GHz, angle of incidence 53°) were operated on POLAR-4 research aircraft. Ice concentrations were derived from aircraft measurements using the NASA-TEAM algorithm. In order to derive ice concentrations from SSM/I 85GHz channels the ARTIST SEA ICE ALGORITHM ASI-v3.2 was applied. The high resolved aircraft measurements were smoothed with a gaussian weighted filter in order to get a comparable resolution to the SSM/I 85GHz footprint. Therefore each point represents an ice concentration integrated over a reasonable aircraft flight path and the co-located ice concentration from the 85GHz channel.
